About FreelanceCalc
FreelanceCalc is a set of free, no-signup calculators for the money side of independent work: what to charge, what to set aside for tax, whether a contract beats a salary, and how to get paid on time. It exists because the arithmetic behind those decisions is simple but tedious — and because most freelancers, lacking a tool, fall back on guesses that quietly cost them thousands a year.
Who's behind it
FreelanceCalc is built and maintained by Moe Husseini, a software developer and founder of Zin Solutions, who has spent years on both sides of the freelance relationship — pricing his own contract work and hiring independent contractors. The calculators started as personal spreadsheets and became this site when it turned out everyone was maintaining the same spreadsheet, badly.
How the numbers are kept honest
Every calculator states its formula and assumptions in plain language on the page, and each country edition cites its primary source — the IRS, GOV.UK, the CRA, the ATO — with the date the data was last reviewed. Tax figures are reviewed when new tax-year thresholds are published (each January and April). Where we simplify — and every calculator simplifies — the simplification is disclosed on the page rather than buried.
Found an error or an outdated figure? Please tell us. Corrections ship quickly and we're grateful for them.
Privacy by architecture
All calculators run entirely in your browser. The numbers you enter — your income, your rates, your clients — are never transmitted to our servers, because there is nothing to transmit them to. See the privacy policy for the full picture.
What this site is not
FreelanceCalc provides planning estimates, not professional advice. We are not accountants, tax advisors or lawyers, and the right decision for your situation may depend on details no calculator can capture. For significant decisions — incorporation, large contracts, disputes — pay a professional; it's usually the highest-ROI overhead line in the whole business budget.
